BOSTON — The sound of victory is echoing through New Bedford once again. In a stunning display of musical excellence and athletic precision at Harvard Stadium, the New Bedford High School Whaler Marching Band has officially captured the 2026 NESBA Division III New England Championship.
Earning a stellar 95.8 for a Platinum Medal and sweeping 1st Place in Division III, the band defended their title to achieve back-to-back New England championships following their historic win last season—their first fall championship in 20 years.
A Championship Performance Rooted in “HOME”
This year’s triumphant production, fittingly titled “HOME,” was designed to be more than just a competitive field show. The program centered on the powerful concept of building a community together—a place where everyone belongs, contributes, and plays a vital role in creating something special.
That collaborative spirit clearly translated to the judges and the audience, as the Whalers dominated the captions, bringing home top honors for:
- 1st Place – Division III
- 95.8 – Platinum Medal
- Best Overall Effect
- Best Visual
- Best Percussion
A Class Act on the Field
The New England Scholastic Band Association (NESBA) championship featured a fiercely competitive lineup of talented programs. In the spirit of true sportsmanship, the NBHS band leadership took a moment to celebrate the achievements of their fellow competitors across the division:
- Westbrook HS – Best Music
- Salem HS, MA – Best Colorguard
- Andover HS – Best Drum Major
Community and Commitment
Behind every golden note and crisp drill set lies countless hours of dedication. The band’s directors and staff expressed immense pride in the students, who welcomed new members, supported one another unconditionally, and pushed their limits right up until the final note of the season.
Gratitude was also extended to the tireless network of NBHS Band Boosters, volunteers, families, school administration, and the greater New Bedford community whose unwavering support helps hold the program to a world-class standard.
As the students celebrated on the field under the stadium lights, one message rang out loud and clear: The trophy is coming home!
Congratulations to the Whaler Marching Band on an unforgettable season of #WhalerPride!
