Passenger Killed in I-195 Crash in Westport; State Police Continue Investigation
One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 195 in Westport on Monday afternoon, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Troopers responded to the westbound side of I-195 near Exit 16 shortly before 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash.
State police said one of the passengers in a vehicle involved in the crash died from their injuries. The victim has not yet been publicly identified.
The two right lanes of I-195 westbound were closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene but have since reopened.
Photos from the crash scene showed a blue convertible heavily damaged and surrounded by debris, while a white pickup truck came to rest in the treeline off the right side of the highway.
Family members commenting on our Facebook post said authorities were investigating reports that another driver may have contributed to the crash before leaving the scene. State police have not confirmed those claims or announced whether they are searching for a suspected hit-and-run driver. Multiple commenters have stated that two vehicles were driving aggressively and that both contributed to the crash.
State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, along with crash reconstruction specialists and crime scene services personnel, are investigating the cause of the crash.
