An investigation is underway after a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 195 westbound in Westport claimed the life of a Fairhaven man Monday afternoon.
In a press release issued Tuesday morning, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn’s office identified the victim as 64-year-old Mario Carreiro of Fairhaven.
Emergency crews were called to the scene near mile marker 16 at about 3:20 p.m. following reports of a serious crash.
When Massachusetts State Police arrived, they found a blue Audi with front-end damage in the right travel lane and a white Chevy Silverado with catastrophic damage in the tree line.
According to the district attorney’s office, a green BMW that was also involved in the crash fled the scene.
The driver of the Audi was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with investigators.
Carreiro, who was driving the Silverado, was found outside the pickup truck. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said the investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing.
