TAUNTON, Mass. — Taunton police are investigating a shooting at an apparent house party early Sunday morning that left multiple people injured and sent several victims to area hospitals.
Police received several 911 calls at approximately 12:37 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, reporting shots fired and multiple people shot in the area of Weir and Sumner streets.
Responding officers determined the shooting occurred at a home on Weir Street near the intersection with Sumner Street. Officers found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene.
Several victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Police said they have also learned that additional victims may have left the scene on their own and sought medical attention at local hospitals.
The exact number of victims and the severity of their injuries remain under investigation. There have been no reported fatalities at this time.
Taunton Police detectives and Massachusetts State Police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section also responded to assist with evidence collection and processing the scene.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
