New Bedford Police are investigating a reported shooting after a man riding an e-bike or scooter was struck by gunfire on South Sixth Street between Russell and County streets Tuesday.
According to police scanner traffic, the male victim was riding along South Sixth Street when someone opened fire, striking him in the hand. Emergency medical crews responded to treat the victim, while officers secured the area and established a large crime scene.
As the investigation continues, portions of South Sixth Street have been closed, with additional road closures possible near the intersection of County Street and South Sixth Street.
Massachusetts State Police have been called in to assist with the investigation.
Police have not released a suspect description or confirmed what led up to the shooting. The victim’s condition has not yet been made public.
