FAIRHAVEN — Phill Picard is facing the heartbreaking reality of starting over after losing everything in a devastating second-alarm fire that swept through his home at 216 Main Street on the evening of October 10, 2026.
According to the Fairhaven Fire-EMS report, emergency crews responded to the residence just before 7:00 PM to find heavy fire showing from the first floor with smoke blanketing all levels. Firefighters from Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, and Acushnet worked diligently to bring the blaze under control as it extended to the second floor and attic space, ultimately leaving the home heavily damaged and uninhabitable.
While human occupants escaped the burning structure, the tragedy claimed the lives of two beloved family pets that were inside.
In an instant, the comforts and routines most of us rely on every day were gone. Phill is now left to navigate the overwhelming shock of the loss while trying to figure out what comes next. Compounding this immense grief, he is carrying the heavy weight of the tragedy while trying to stay strong for his two young daughters, who have been deeply affected by everything that happened.
As local authorities investigate the cause—which is not considered suspicious—the family is in urgent need of community support to help them through this incredibly difficult time and begin rebuilding their lives.
