A 19-year-old man died Saturday afternoon after falling onto the electrified third rail at the MBTA’s Forest Hills Station in Boston, according to Transit Police.
Transit Police said the incident happened at approximately 1:09 p.m. Two 19-year-olds who were traveling together were carrying flags representing Caribbean countries when the young woman reportedly became unsteady on her feet near the yellow warning strip along the platform.
As she lost her balance, the young man, identified as Frankey Wright Jr., attempted to help her regain her footing. The woman was able to realign herself but then fell backward into the track area.
Wright also fell into the right of way while attempting to assist her. He landed on the electrified third rail and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The young woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Transit Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The MBTA described the incident as a horrific tragedy and offered condolences to Wright’s family and friends.
