Nearly a week after Worcester police Officer Kurt Solomon was found dead inside his Wildwood Avenue home, investigators are still searching for his wife, Karen Solomon, who remains the main suspect in his killing.
The manhunt entered its seventh day Monday, Aug. 24, with police reporting that the search remains active. Where is she hiding? Is she deceased? Has she fled the state? Is someone helping her? What aren’t we being told about the domestic situation?
Kurt Solomon, 57, was found dead by fellow Worcester police officers Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, at the couple’s home at 217 Wildwood Ave. Karen Solomon, also 57, was missing, prompting a widespread search.
Investigators have focused much of their effort on Coes Pond, located within walking distance of the home. Surveillance footage from a Mill Street business near the pond shows Karen Solomon walking in the area wearing night clothes shortly after her husband’s death.
Dive teams and tracking dogs have searched the pond and surrounding areas, but authorities have not located her.
The city has closed several Coes Pond-area facilities indefinitely while the search continues, including Coes Pond Beach (Binienda Beach), Columbus Park and its boardwalk, Knights of Columbus Park, and Coes Park Playground near Stearns Tavern.
The search comes as Worcester police and officers from surrounding communities prepare to honor Kurt Solomon this week. Visiting hours are scheduled for Tuesday, with his funeral set for Wednesday.
