A Massachusetts man killed in a weekend motorcycle crash is being remembered for the kindness, generosity, and love he shared with family and friends throughout his life.
According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 11:45 a.m. Saturday, troopers from the Bourne Barracks responded to a crash involving two motorcycles on Route 6 eastbound in Sandwich.
One of the motorcyclists was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The second rider suffered only minor injuries and was transported to the Bourne Barracks for questioning. State police continue to investigate the crash.
The rider who died has been identified as Tom Matthews, whose family says they are devastated by the sudden and tragic loss.
Those who knew Matthews say he loved telling stories, sharing laughs, and spending time with family and friends over a good drink, a fine cigar, and sushi. More than anything, he will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. His obituary says he touched countless lives through his compassion, loyalty, and willingness to help others.
Matthews is survived by his wife, Sara Matthews; his children, Daniel Matthews, Holly Maxton, and Nathan Matthews, who is serving with the United States Army in Germany; his granddaughter, Abagail Matthews; three brothers; and several nieces and nephews.
In a fundraiser created to support the family, loved ones described Tom as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle whose world revolved around his family and his love for the open road.
“He spent his life creating unforgettable memories with the people he cherished most and chasing his passion for riding,” the fundraiser states.
The family says donations will help cover living expenses for Sara Matthews as she faces the difficult transition following her husband’s unexpected death.
