WESTPORT — A coordinated rescue involving multiple public safety agencies brought four people safely ashore Sunday afternoon after their boat overturned outside the mouth of Westport Harbor.
Westport Fire Department, Harbormaster, and Police responded to reports of a capsized vessel with four occupants in the water. Before first responders arrived, a nearby boater rescued two of the victims.
The Westport Harbormaster then pulled the remaining two people from the water. All four occupants were evaluated at the scene by Westport firefighter-paramedics and were reported to be in good condition.
The rescue effort included support from Westport Police, which deployed a drone to assist responders, while Horseneck Beach lifeguards responded with a jet ski. Cherry & Webb Beach lifeguards provided visual support from the shoreline, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation also assisted.
Westport officials thanked their public safety partners and regional E911 dispatchers for their quick response and coordination during the incident.
