Robert Maynard, a longtime Fall River public servant whose decades of civic involvement included 13 years on the Fall River School Committee, died peacefully on July 18 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 83.
A lifelong Fall River resident, Maynard built a career centered on serving his hometown. In addition to his years on the School Committee, where he advocated for students, families, and educators, he also served on the Fall River Council on Aging and worked at Fall River Superior Court. He earned a reputation for his integrity, compassion, and commitment to improving the community.
Born on Feb. 15, 1943, to the late Joseph and Mary (Medeiros) Maynard, he remained deeply rooted in Fall River throughout his life, dedicating himself to public service, his Catholic faith, and his family.
Maynard is survived by his wife, Bernadette Maynard; daughters Susan Pavao and Karen Lopes; grandchildren Michael Pavao, Melissa Barbosa, and Mya Lopes; several great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.
His family said he will be remembered for his kindness, humility, generosity, and unwavering dedication to serving others, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and public service in Fall River.
Funeral services will be private. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Church, and Maynard will be buried at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
