SOMERSET, Mass. (Aug. 2, 2026) — Kyle Barboza, 42, of Fall River, has been arrested following an alleged unprovoked double stabbing at the Riverview Inn & Suites on Aug. 1.
Police responded after a motel clerk reported that a woman with a severe neck wound had entered the lobby seeking help. Officers located the injured woman outside her motel room, where they also found her boyfriend restraining Barboza on the floor beside a bloody knife.
According to investigators, the victims had picked up Barboza earlier that day after he asked to stay with them at the motel. While the male victim was in the bathroom, Barboza allegedly attacked the woman from behind, attempting to cut her throat and striking her in the head with the knife. When her boyfriend came to help, Barboza allegedly stabbed and slashed him multiple times. The boyfriend was ultimately able to disarm and restrain Barboza until officers arrived.
All three individuals were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Detectives determined the attack was unprovoked.
Barboza remains hospitalized under police guard and will be arraigned upon his release. He is charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and two counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury. He is being held on $500,000 cash bail.
