BOURNE POLICE DEPARTMENT
At approximately 6:48 a.m., officers from the Bourne Police Department and members of the Bourne Fire Department responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Scenic Highway near the Herring Run Rest Area.
Upon arrival, first responders determined the crash occurred at the intersection of Scenic Highway and Herring Pond Road. The vehicles involved were a white 2026 GMC Terrain, operated by Timothy Malone, 41, of Providence, Rhode Island, and a tan 2016 Jeep Wrangler, operated by Paul Hunnebeck, 61, of Kingston, New York.
The preliminary investigation indicates the GMC Terrain was traveling eastbound on Scenic Highway when it allegedly failed to stop for a red traffic signal. The GMC then struck the Jeep Wrangler broadside (“T-bone”) as the Jeep was traveling westbound and making a left turn into the Herring Run Rest Area.
The impact caused the Jeep Wrangler to become airborne and roll over once before coming to rest upright.
The operator of the GMC Terrain sustained injuries believed to be life-threatening. Bourne Police officers applied a tourniquet to his right upper arm to control severe arterial bleeding before he was transported by MedFlight to an area trauma center.
A 44-year-old male passenger in the GMC Terrain, from Brockton, Massachusetts, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to a separate trauma center.
The operator of the Jeep Wrangler was transported to another area hospital with injuries believed to be minor and non-life-threatening.
The crash remains under investigation by the Bourne Police Department.
