Massachusetts State Police detectives are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Lakeville, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced.
At approximately 1:58 p.m. yesterday, a resident entered the Lakeville Police Department to request a well-being check after reporting that a family member armed with a firearm was disturbed and acting erratically at a residence on Heritage Hill.
Lakeville police responded to the residence with the reporting party, who allowed officers inside. Upon entering a second-floor bedroom, officers encountered 31-year-old Gregory Buckley, who was reportedly pointing a firearm at them.
Officers issued verbal commands ordering Buckley to drop the weapon. According to investigators, Buckley refused, and gunfire was exchanged.
Buckley was struck by gunfire. Officers immediately provided first aid before he was transported to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Four Lakeville police officers were also transported to a hospital for evaluation and were later released.
The encounter was captured on officers’ body-worn cameras. Massachusetts State Police detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
