At approximately 11:49 a.m., Mansfield Engine 32 and Rescue 36, along with crews from Norton Fire and Taunton Brewster EMS, responded to I-495 Northbound near mile marker 27.6 for a reported motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a three-car crash, with two vehicles located in the median and a third vehicle off the roadway in the woods on the breakdown-lane side of the highway.
Two patients were trapped inside their vehicles and required extrication. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to safely remove both patients.
During the extrication, Mansfield Car 32 responded with two units of whole blood to intercept with Rescue 36. The units were canceled while en route.
Two patients were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, while a third patient was transported to BMC-South for further evaluation.
Crews remained on scene to assist with patient care, extrication, and scene safety.
