A business jet traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas crashed into a residential roadway in Palm Beach County on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of all nine people on board, according to the US transport secretary.
The Learjet 60 went down around 12:50 EST near Cresthaven—approximately nine miles from President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort—leaving a large, flaming crater on Military Trail, a busy six-lane road lined with businesses and eateries.
Transport Secretary Sean Duffy called the incident a “horrific tragedy” as emergency responders declared a mass casualty incident. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is dispatching a team to assist the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in investigating the cause of the crash.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the area while emergency services secure the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those on board or confirmed whether anyone on the ground was injured.
