Yesterday afternoon, two people were killed in separate, unrelated train strikes across the MBTA Commuter Rail network just fifteen minutes apart.
According to Transit Police:
- Readville (Hyde Park): Just before 4:00 PM, a man purposely stepped into the path of an oncoming train.
- Abington: Fifteen minutes later, a woman accessed the right-of-way and walked along the tracks near the Summer Street crossing before being struck.
Both victims succumbed to their injuries and have not yet been identified.
The incidents caused significant delays and service disruptions across the Kingston, Providence/Stoughton, and Franklin/Foxboro lines. Outbound Kingston Line trains were replaced by shuttle buses between Braintree and Kingston.
