After serving as a gathering place for food, celebrations and community, Hanami Tea House is closing its brick-and-mortar location — but its story is far from over.
Hanami Tea House recently announced that it will be closing its physical location following what owner William described as a deeply personal decision.
For William, Hanami was never simply a restaurant.
“It has been a dream, a creative outlet, a place to gather, and one of the most meaningful parts of my life,” he shared in the announcement.
From its dishes and menus to special events, conversations and celebrations, Hanami became a place where food and community came together. For many customers, it was a destination for an everyday meal as well as a setting for birthdays, milestones and other important moments.
William expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported the cafe throughout its journey.
He thanked customers for choosing Hanami for both ordinary meals and significant celebrations, for trusting the cafe with special occasions, and for being willing to try something new. More than anything, he said, their support helped transform the cafe into a place filled with memories.
The decision to close also comes as William takes time to prioritize his health.
“I’ve been dealing with health issues that require my attention, and I’ve realized I can’t continue sacrificing my well-being to keep the cafe open,” he said.
Closing the restaurant will give him an opportunity to focus on healing, resetting and creating a healthier balance in his life.
But while the storefront is closing, Hanami itself is not going away.
The business will continue through catering and private events, allowing William to remain connected to the food and experiences he loves while operating in a way that is more sustainable.
The transition marks the end of one chapter, but William made it clear that he sees it as the beginning of another.
“I’m sad to close this chapter, but I’m also proud of what Hanami became and grateful to everyone who helped make it possible,” he wrote.
The cafe may be changing, but the ideas and creativity behind Hanami remain. William says he still has plenty of meals to create, ideas to explore and dreams to pursue.
For the people who came to know Hanami as more than a place to eat, the announcement is understandably bittersweet. Yet there is also a sense of optimism in knowing that the food, hospitality and spirit that defined Hanami will continue in a new form.
“This is not goodbye,” William wrote. “It’s simply a new beginning.”
And so, while Hanami’s brick-and-mortar chapter comes to a close, the community can still expect to see its influence at celebrations, private events and around town.
“We’ll see you around town, at your celebrations, and wherever Hanami’s next chapter takes us,” William said.
For now, Hanami’s next chapter begins with gratitude, healing and the freedom to keep creating — just in a different way.
