FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS — What began as a family farm is growing into something much bigger for David Torres and his family.
At DT Empire A Family Farm, the Torres family is working to create a place where children, families, students, people with disabilities, residential programs, and neighbors can experience animals, agriculture, nature, and the simple joy of spending time together outdoors.
And now, they’re asking the community to help them take the next step.
A Farm Built for Connection
The potential of DT Empire A Family Farm has already been demonstrated through the people who have walked through its gates.
The farm has welcomed students with intellectual disabilities who came to learn about planting, interact with animals, and experience farm life firsthand. During one unforgettable visit, the students even witnessed the birth of a baby goat.
The farm has also hosted visitors from residential programs, including people who use wheelchairs, as well as community events where children and families could meet animals, play, learn, and simply enjoy being together.
A large homeschool community has also expressed interest in bringing students and families to the farm for educational experiences.
For the Torres family, these visits have made one thing clear: there is a real need for a place like this in the community.

Building a Farm Everyone Can Experience
With that opportunity comes a challenge.
Parts of the property are currently difficult for visitors with wheelchairs or limited mobility to navigate. The family wants to level and improve visitor areas, create more accessible pathways, improve the entrance, and eventually provide a small utility vehicle or similar transportation option for visitors who cannot comfortably walk long distances.
One of the family’s most important goals is installing accessible restroom facilities so that people with disabilities, seniors, school groups, residential programs, homeschool groups, and families can visit the farm with greater comfort and dignity.
But accessibility is only one piece of the project.
The farm also needs stronger fencing, improved paddocks, better barns and animal shelters, safer enclosures, and additional protection from predators. The family is working toward completing a fully enclosed, protected area for its chickens.
Older structures also need to be safely removed, while trees, debris, and overgrown areas must be cleared before portions of the property can become safe and welcoming spaces for visitors.
The goal isn’t to make the farm fancy. It’s to make it safer, cleaner, more accessible, and more welcoming.
Every Donation Can Make a Difference
The Torres family is raising $50,000 to help make these improvements possible.
Funds will support projects including:
- Accessible restroom facilities
- Improved entrances and visitor access
- Smoother, more navigable areas for wheelchair and limited-mobility visitors
- Safer, stronger, and more attractive fencing
- Improved paddocks, barns, and animal shelters
- Predator-resistant animal enclosures
- Completion of a protected chicken enclosure
- Removal of deteriorated farm structures
- Tree, debris, and property cleanup
- Improvements to educational and community program areas
- A small farm utility vehicle or similar mobility solution, if funding allows
The family knows that not everyone can make a large donation—and that’s okay.
A gift of $10, $20, $25, or $50 can still help. Collectively, those contributions can help build a fence, clear a section of land, improve an animal enclosure, create a more accessible pathway, or bring the farm one step closer to having accessible restrooms.
And for those who cannot donate, sharing the fundraiser with friends, family, schools, churches, organizations, and community groups can make an important difference too.
A Family’s Dream, Shared With the Community
For David and his family, DT Empire A is deeply personal.
They have invested countless hours of their own labor and resources into building the farm. In fact, the farm holds one of the family’s most meaningful memories: David and his wife celebrated their wedding there, surrounded by something they had worked together to create.
Now, they want to share that special place with others.
“We want children to experience the joy of meeting an animal up close,” the family says. “We want families to have a safe place to spend time together outdoors. We want students to learn where food comes from and experience agriculture firsthand. And we want people with disabilities and limited mobility to have more opportunities to enjoy those experiences alongside everyone else.”
That vision is simple—but powerful.
Help Build a Farm for Everyone
The Torres family’s goal is to continue making DT Empire A Family Farm a welcoming place for families, children, individuals with disabilities, schools, community programs, and organizations, while continuing to grow what the farm can offer the Fall River community.
Every visit, share, donation, connection, and bit of support helps move the family one step closer to that vision. ❤️
