Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced that authorities are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday evening in Raynham.
At approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, Raynham and Taunton police officers responded to the area of King Philip Street and Gardiner Street for a report of a motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers located a single vehicle with extensive damage down a steep embankment in a wooded area.
The operator and sole occupant, Maura Whittemore, 54, of Taunton, suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Raynham Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Following the crash, State Representative Lisa Field announced on social media that Whittemore was her sister.
“My family and I received the heartbreaking news last night that my sister, Maura, died in a car accident Wednesday,” Field wrote. “I want to express my deepest appreciation to Maura’s colleagues at Bridgewater State University for their concern and support, as well as the Taunton and Raynham police departments, Raynham Fire Department, and State Police for their skill and professionalism. Please take a moment today to give a loved one a hug to let them know that every day with them is a precious one.”
