The Rhode Island Community Food Bank announced Thursday that it has received a $1 million donation from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
The nonprofit said the contribution will help purchase more food for families in need while supporting its network of 137 member agencies that provide hunger relief across the state.
Food Bank officials said the donation comes at a critical time, as summer is typically a slower fundraising season while demand for food assistance remains high.
“We are incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce for their extraordinarily generous and unexpected gift,” CEO Melissa Cherney said in a statement. “As the need across our communities continues to grow, this $1 million donation will go a long way in helping us purchase and distribute the nutritious, culturally appropriate food that Rhode Islanders deserve. I hope their gift inspires others; it has certainly inspired us.”
The announcement also puts to rest speculation that the donation was tied to rumors of a Rhode Island wedding for the celebrity couple. According to the Food Bank, the gift is one of several hunger relief donations Swift and Kelce have made across the country.
A recent Variety report said the pair donated a combined $26 million to 20 organizations nationwide, including nine food banks, seven educational programs, three children’s hospitals and one animal welfare nonprofit.
