A 61-year-old Plymouth woman died Monday afternoon after a tree toppled onto the back porch of her Sullivan Avenue home during a powerful wind gust, according to police and fire officials.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the home at about 1:10 p.m. following reports of a woman trapped beneath a fallen tree.
Plymouth police officers and neighbors located the woman and immediately began efforts to free her and provide emergency medical care. She was transported by Brewster Ambulance, accompanied by Plymouth firefighters, to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities had not released the woman’s name as of Monday evening, pending notification of her family.
A preliminary investigation indicates the woman was sitting on her back porch when a large gust of wind caused the tree to snap and crash onto the home, according to a joint statement from the Plymouth Police and Fire departments.
The incident remains under investigation by the Plymouth Police Department and State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office.
