A 10-year veteran of the Wareham Police Department is currently being held without bail following his arrest on multiple serious felony charges, including rape, strangulation, and numerous counts of assault with a firearm.
According to reporting by Wareham Week, 41-year-old Officer Ryan Gomes was taken into custody on Friday, October 23, after an investigation by Massachusetts State Police into allegations involving an on-again, off-again romantic partner. Court documents outline a multi-year pattern of abuse, including allegations that Gomes pointed a loaded gun at the victim during arguments on 15 separate occasions and cornered her with a taser while intoxicated.
Gomes pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in Wareham District Court and was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. Following his arrest, the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission suspended his law enforcement certification, and the Wareham Police Department placed him on administrative leave.
