WESTFIELD, Mass. — A heartbreaking chapter for the Westfield community has closed with devastating confirmation. Twenty-six-year-old Timofey Gavrilyuk, who had been missing for over a month, has been found dead.
Gavrilyuk, who was autistic and nonverbal, vanished on the evening of September 24, disappearing into the dense, unforgiving wooded terrain just north of Service Star Industrial Way near Egleston Road. His disappearance immediately triggered an unprecedented, weeks-long regional mobilization.
A Massive, Relentless Hunt
For weeks, the woodlands, swamps, and neighboring corridors of Westfield and Southampton became the focal point of a massive multi-agency operation. Ground crews faced grueling conditions as search efforts brought together the Westfield Police Department, Westfield Fire Department, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Massachusetts State Police—complete with Air Wing units, specialized K9 trackers, and tactical teams—alongside Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Park Rangers, the Mass Air National Guard, and regional technical rescue teams.
Throughout the operation, authorities utilized extensive resources—including ground officers, patrol K9s, bloodhounds, cadaver dogs, ATVs, UTVs, aerial drones, underwater drones, and state police helicopters. Despite shifting strategies, temporary operational pauses, and a flurry of community tips regarding potential sightings along nearby routes like the Route 10 corridor toward Southampton, searchers kept returning to the field.
The Final Search and Discovery
The search culminated on a Thursday morning when multi-agency teams—including the Westfield Police Department, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Massachusetts State Police, and Massachusetts DCR—restarted active search operations, only to receive word that Gavrilyuk’s body had been located elsewhere.
Authorities confirmed that foul play was not suspected in his death.

Official Statement and Media Lockdown
In the wake of the recovery, the Westfield Police Department issued a formal statement on social media bringing closure to the exhaustive search:
“Timofey has been located. We will not be releasing any additional details. All press inquiries should be directed to the Hampden County DA’s Office. Thank you to all the agencies that assisted in this investigation.”
Officials also extended deep gratitude to the countless first responders, rescue volunteers, and community members who gave everything in the relentless effort to bring Timofey home.
