Five days after the search began, authorities are still looking for Karen Solomon, who police say may be armed and dangerous following the death of her husband, Worcester Police Patrolman Kurt Solomon.
Kurt Solomon, 57, was found dead early Tuesday morning at a residence on Wildwood Avenue after what authorities described as a domestic incident. An arrest warrant was later issued for Karen Solomon on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.
“No one’s going to stop until we find Karen Solomon,” Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said Friday.
Authorities have expanded their search, closing several recreational areas around Worcester over the weekend, including Coes Pond Beach, Columbus Park and its boardwalk, Knights of Columbus Park, Coes Park Playground and Stearns Tavern.
Karen Solomon is described as having dark brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing pajama shorts and a tank top.
Police are urging anyone who sees her not to approach her and to contact authorities immediately. Tips can be sent to Worcester police by texting 274637.
The case began unfolding early Tuesday morning when a woman at the Wildwood Avenue residence called 911 to report a man lying in the backyard and apparently not breathing.
Police arrived to find Kurt Solomon deceased, with blood reportedly discovered inside the home. Radio transmissions indicate officers quickly called for crime scene personnel, backup and evidence preservation.
Investigators soon focused their attention on the woman who initially made the call. Police attempted to reach Karen Solomon by phone, but calls went to voicemail. Authorities then began efforts to locate her phone and issued a lookout alert for a vehicle connected to the residence.
Kurt Solomon served 31 years with the Worcester Police Department and leaves behind two adult sons. A wake is scheduled for Tuesday, followed by his funeral Wednesday.
The search continues—and authorities are making clear they will not stop until Karen Solomon is found.
