NEW BEDFORD, MA — New Bedford High School has named geometry teacher Ms. Padilla as the latest recipient of its Student Choice Award, celebrating her dedication to student success, engaging classroom environment, and commitment to the school’s core values.
The monthly award, driven by direct nominations from the student body, highlights educators who go above and beyond to support their students academically and personally.
In their nominations, students praised Ms. Padilla for balancing high standards in her geometry classes with a supportive, enjoyable atmosphere.
“Ms. Padilla is always working hard to help us fully understand the material in her geometry class,” one student wrote. “She wants us to succeed but also gives us freedom in some areas, which teaches us responsibility in doing our work and staying focused. She is really fun as well, as she is always laughing and joking around with us while we work. She is an amazing teacher and person in general!”
Another student highlighted her resilience and care, noting, “No matter what she’s going through, she pushes through every day and shows us she cares.”
Students noted that Ms. Padilla prominently embodies the school core value to “accept others,” pointing to her welcoming nature and the inclusive space she creates for everyone entering her classroom.
The achievement also marks a full-circle moment for the school community, as former teachers turned colleagues celebrated her return to New Bedford High School—this time on the other side of the desk, inspiring the next generation of Whalers.
