New Bedford firefighters responded to an early Sunday morning special-alarm fire in a large mixed-use building at 1498 Acushnet Avenue. Engine 8 and Ladder 4 were first on the scene at the multi-story structure, which houses ground-floor commercial space and upstairs apartments.
Because mixed-use incidents demand simultaneous search, suppression, and ventilation, a full multi-company task force was deployed, including Engines 1, 7, 8, and 9; Ladders 1 and 4; and Command Units 1 and 2.
We are still waiting to hear from the NBFD if anyone was injured or displaced.
