Following the arrest and subsequent campaign suspension of his running mate, Shawn Oliver, Republican gubernatorial nominee Mike Minogue announced that he plans to govern without a lieutenant governor if elected this November.
Oliver suspended his statewide campaign after being arrested late Saturday night in New Bedford on charges of operating under the influence and negligent operation of a motor vehicle after crashing his SUV. While Minogue called for Oliver to step aside and made it clear Oliver will not serve as his second-in-command, ballots have already been printed and early voting is underway, leading Minogue to urge supporters to continue voting for the joint ticket while assuring them he intends to operate the administration without a lieutenant governor.
