Shoppers at the Abington Walmart got more than they bargained for this week when a routine police investigation exploded into a high-stakes foot chase, a fumbled firearm, and an instant dose of karma.
According to the Abington Police Dept , officers responding to a frantic report of a person with a gun quickly made contact with a 17-year-old from Brockton. But the suspect decided testing his track-and-field skills against the local police was a winning strategy. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.
Officer Perakslis quickly stepped in to show the young man that fleeing the scene was a terrible idea. During the ensuing foot pursuit, the suspect’s grand escape plan literally came apart at the seams—or rather, out of his waistband. A loaded firearm slipped right out as he ran. He desperately tried to double back and retrieve it, but police say he was entirely unsuccessful.
Thanks to the swift moves of Officer Perakslis, the suspect was wrestled into custody and slapped with a ticket straight to a holding cell without bail. He’s now facing a laundry list of charges, including illegal possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and resisting arrest.
Local authorities are rightfully shouting out Officers Perakslis and Fitts, alongside Sgt. Calice, for their top-tier teamwork and dedication to keeping everyday shoppers safe. Let this be a lesson: next time you think about running from the cops, maybe check your waistband first.
