ATTLEBORO, Mass. — A routine drive to the hospital turned into an unexpected roadside delivery Tuesday evening when a baby girl was born on the side of Interstate 95 in Attleboro.
At approximately 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Attleboro Fire Department was dispatched to I-95 North for a reported childbirth.
When crews arrived, they discovered that the father had already delivered the couple’s baby girl on the side of the highway. The new parents had been traveling to the hospital when their daughter decided she was ready to make her arrival a little earlier than expected.
Attleboro Fire paramedics immediately assessed both the mother and newborn. Both were found to be in healthy condition and were transported to Sturdy Hospital for further evaluation.
“Most of the time, we meet people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives,” Firefighter Paramedic Haley Coleman said. “It was refreshing to be part of such a happy and important moment for this family. We’re grateful that both mom and baby were healthy and doing well.”
The Attleboro Fire Department wished the couple, their new daughter and their growing family all the best.
