PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Clear skies and autumn air set the backdrop for a group of local veterans as they took to the tracks for a unique outdoor adventure along the Narragansett Bay.
Organized by the Veterans Association of Bristol County
, the group gathered in Portsmouth for the “Northern Ramble” excursion with Rail Explorers Rhode Island. The event offered veterans an opportunity to pedal custom pedal-powered rail bikes along historic railroad tracks, taking in coastal scenery while enjoying fresh air, exercise, and camaraderie.
The outing was made possible through an Impact Grant provided by the United Way of Greater Fall River
, which supports community programs aimed at enhancing the well-being and social connection of local residents.
For many participants, the ride offered more than just picturesque views—it provided a welcoming space to bond with fellow service members outside of formal settings.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery, get some exercise, and connect with fellow veterans,” shared representatives from the Veterans Association of Bristol County following the ride.
The organization plans to continue offering recreational and social events for veterans throughout the region. Community members and local veterans interested in upcoming activities are encouraged to follow the association’s social media channels or subscribe to their newsletter for future updates.
