BOSTON — A 60-year-old Brockton man was arrested Tuesday morning by Boston police and U.S. Marshals after investigators alleged he used camera-equipped sunglasses and a cellphone to record children at the Boston Common Frog Pond.
At approximately 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2026, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown), working with the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested Mark Sullivan, 60, of Brockton, in the area of 162 Warren Avenue in Brockton.
Sullivan was arrested on a straight warrant issued by Boston Municipal Court charging him with Photographing Sexual or Intimate Parts of a Child.
The warrant stems from an August 14 incident at the Boston Common Frog Pond.
At approximately 1:00 p.m. that Friday, District A-1 officers responded to 38 Beacon Street after receiving a radio call for a person in the area.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a witness who reported seeing an unknown male arguing with another man. Multiple witnesses subsequently told officers that the suspect had been recording children in the playground using sunglasses equipped with a camera. Witnesses also reported that he used his cellphone to record the children.
According to witnesses, the suspect also used the camera-equipped sunglasses to record a family who was attempting to change their children while the children were wrapped in towels for privacy. When the family moved because of the suspect’s behavior, witnesses said he followed them and continued scanning the children with the camera sunglasses.
Witnesses confronted the suspect, who removed the sunglasses and attempted to break them with his hands.
When officers observed the damaged sunglasses in the suspect’s possession, he told them that a group of people had pulled the glasses from his face and assaulted him.
During the investigation, officers learned that Sullivan was registered with the Sex Offender Registry. Police seized the sunglasses and cellphone as evidence.
Officers were unable to immediately locate the victims, who had already left the area.
Sullivan is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
The allegations described above are accusations, and Sullivan is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
