Fall River Public Schools is proud to announce that Edmond P. Talbot Middle School has been selected as one of only eight schools nationwide—and the only school in Massachusetts and New England—to begin the Smithsonian Science Education Center’s three-year pathway to becoming a Smithsonian STEAM School of Distinction.
The national program recognizes middle and high schools that demonstrate a school-wide commitment to excellence in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM) through innovative, inclusive learning experiences.
This week, a Talbot leadership team is participating in the Smithsonian’s five-day Strategic Planning Institute in Washington, D.C., where they will develop a five-year roadmap to expand STEAM opportunities for students. Representing Fall River Public Schools are Dr. Kimberly Laliberte, Director of Science; Talbot Principal Lisa Zagarella Coutu; Math-Science Department Head Yvone Rego; Project Lead The Way teacher Aidan Shane; and community partners Daniela Munoz and Marquis Taylor of Coaching4Change.
Following the institute, Talbot will work with the Smithsonian Science Education Center over the next three years to implement its strategic plan and pursue designation as a Smithsonian STEAM School of Distinction.
