A 74-year-old woman riding a bicycle was killed Monday in a crash involving a dump truck on Route 6 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, authorities said.
Dartmouth and Massachusetts State Police were dispatched to the area of 832 State Road on Route 6 westbound just before noon after receiving a 911 call.
When officers arrived, they found a dump truck pulled over on the right side of the roadway. Investigators determined the truck had collided with the bicyclist.
The cyclist, identified only as a 74-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash prompted the closure of Route 6 westbound in the area between Reed Road and Quarry Street. Reed Road was also closed southbound from Woodcart Drive to State Road as investigators processed the scene. Police urged motorists to avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and expect significant traffic delays.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
The fatal crash occurred about a mile from the scene of a two-vehicle crash late Friday that claimed two lives on Route 6 in Dartmouth.
