They also shared documents, video and photographic evidence to support their claims. “There have been a lot of questions and allegations about the role the Lizzie Borden House and US Ghost Adventures played in the recent eviction of Miss Lizzie’s Coffee. The short answer is that we had no role. The eviction of the coffee shop was a matter between a tenant who failed to pay more than $10,000 in rent, and his landlord, and neither the Lizzie Borden House nor US Ghost Adventures was that landlord.
We don’t litigate disputes in the press. But the public has been given one side of this story for too long. The record deserves to be told plainly.”
“What we are involved in is a trademark matter, and it has been widely misunderstood. US Ghost Adventures holds the rights to the Lizzie Borden name as it’s used for the historic house and its programming. When a neighboring business opened using a closely similar name, the concern was straightforward — guests were confusing the two, and preventing that kind of confusion is exactly what trademark protection exists to do. This was never about controlling the name of a historic figure. It was also never about putting anyone out of business.”
This news comes after the announcement from Miss Lizzie’s that they had found a new permanent home at the former Abbey Grill.
