A 61-year-old Westport man is facing multiple charges, including cocaine trafficking, after a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.
According to the Westport Police Department, Officer Zackary Berube stopped a vehicle for speeding at approximately 1:49 a.m. on Aug. 4 in the area of State Road and Pine Needle Avenue.
Police identified the driver as Russell Teasdale, 61, of Main Road, Westport. Officers determined that Teasdale’s Massachusetts driver’s license was suspended and placed him under arrest.
During a pat frisk, Officer Berube allegedly found a pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine in Teasdale’s pocket.
A subsequent search of the vehicle by Sgt. Luc Sauvé and Officer Tristin Costa reportedly uncovered approximately 29 grams of a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, along with a second crack pipe and an electronic digital scale.
Teasdale has been charged with:
- Trafficking cocaine (more than 18 grams but less than 36 grams)
- Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license
- Speeding in violation of a special regulation
The charges are allegations. Teasdale is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
