Last evening at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Slade and Scott Streets following reports of shots fired.
After speaking with witnesses and the victim, investigators determined that James Hickey, 36, allegedly fired three rounds in the vicinity of the victim. The investigation also identified Dominique Starks, 34, as being involved in the incident.
Thanks to the swift response of officers assigned to the Fall River Police Department’s Patrol Bureau, Hickey was located hiding inside a nearby residence shortly after the incident.
Members of the Major Crimes Division assisted with the investigation. After obtaining and executing a search warrant, officers recovered and seized a firearm along with ammunition believed to be connected to the case.
Investigators further determined that Starks allegedly played a role in the incident and provided misleading information to officers in an attempt to help Hickey avoid apprehension.
Hickey was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Unlicensed Possession of a Firearm (Subsequent Offense). Based on prior convictions for drug and violent offenses, he was also charged as a repeat offender in accordance with Massachusetts law.
Starks was also arrested and charged in connection with the investigation.
The Fall River Police Department commends the quick actions of responding patrol officers and investigators, whose coordinated efforts led to the prompt arrest of both suspects and the recovery of an illegally possessed firearm.
As always, all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
