At approximately 12:18 p.m. on Monday Sept. 28th. the Lakeville Fire Department responded to a residence on Nelsons Grove Road for a reported residential generator fire.
A full department recall was initiated, and upon arrival, Squad 3 found a propane-fueled residential generator burning in the rear of the residence. Due to the potential for the fire to extend into the home, a working fire assignment was requested.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire using a dry chemical extinguisher and secured the propane supply. Upon Engine 2’s arrival, a hose line was deployed to complete extinguishment.
Fire crews conducted a thorough check of the residence and determined that the fire had not extended into the structure, allowing the working fire assignment to be canceled.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, although it is believed to have started when the generator initiated its weekly self-test.
Responding units included Squad 3, Engine 1, Engine 2, and Tanker 1, along with Middleborough Car 1, Car 3, and Engine 4. No injuries were reported. All units cleared the scene by approximately 1:18 p.m.
The Lakeville Fire Department credited the rapid and professional response of its personnel with likely preventing the fire from spreading to the residence and thanked its mutual aid partners for their assistance.
Group 2 was on duty at the time of the incident.
