At approximately 1957 hours this evening, Mansfield Car 32, Car 35, Engine 32, and Rescue 36, along with Foxborough Ladder 26 and Rescue 27, responded to a seven-vehicle motor vehicle crash on I-495 South at mile marker 31.2.
Upon arrival, Rescue 36 found multiple vehicles with significant damage and requested additional ambulances to the scene. The two paramedics assigned to Rescue 36 immediately began triaging the numerous patients while awaiting the arrival of additional responding companies.
Mansfield Car 32 assumed command and requested a total of seven ambulances to respond to the incident.
Mansfield Rescue 35 and Rescue 36, Foxborough Rescue 27 and Rescue 28, Norton Rescue 41, Wrentham A1, and Plainville A2 transported a total of seven patients to Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Boston Medical Center South, and Sturdy Memorial Hospital.
While crews were managing the crash, Mansfield Fire personnel were also dispatched to an additional medical emergency in town, with Engine 31 and a Sharon rescue responding. At the same time, a Foxborough engine and Walpole engine responded to a brush fire on I-95 North at mile marker 11.6 in Mansfield. Easton Engine 13 provided station coverage to help maintain local emergency response capabilities.
We would like to thank all of the mutual aid departments and responding personnel for their assistance. Their coordinated efforts were instrumental in managing a significant multi-vehicle crash while simultaneously handling additional emergencies throughout the area with limited resources.
