Department of Fire Services Hazmat technicians from District 1 spent nine hours supporting the New Bedford Fire Department during a hazardous ammonia leak at a large cold storage facility.
Working in appropriate protective equipment, Hazmat technicians made repeated entries into the facility to locate and mitigate the leak. Throughout the operation, they worked closely with local firefighters and maintained constant communication with the local incident commander to safely manage the response.
The mission demonstrated the critical role of specialized Hazmat teams in supporting local fire departments during complex and potentially dangerous incidents.
