Earlier this morning, Fall River EMS Medic 5 was dispatched to a residence for a reported medical emergency involving a patient experiencing shortness of breath.
Upon entering the home, the responding paramedic encountered an unusual odor that caused eye irritation and vomiting. A second EMS crew, Squad 12, was immediately requested to the scene.
While responding, Squad 12 requested additional resources, including Fall River Fire Engine 2, Heavy Rescue 1, and Car 2, for a possible hazardous materials incident.
Fall River firefighters entered the residence to locate the source of the exposure, which was also believed to be contributing to the patient’s symptoms. Firefighters were able to disable the source and ventilate the residence.
Fall River EMS also treated two dogs at the scene before turning them over to the Fall River Police Department.
In total, two residents and one Fall River paramedic were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation and treatment.
