The United States Coast Guard has launched a search for a Gulfstream aircraft carrying six people after contact with the plane was lost early Saturday morning.
The aircraft was traveling from Bermuda to Boston when communications were lost. The current search area is approximately 20 to 40 miles south of Nantucket, where Coast Guard crews are searching both from the air and on the water.
According to FlightRadar24, the aircraft departed Bermuda shortly after 11:30 p.m. EDT and was bound for Boston.
The aircraft, identified by tail registration C-GJRP, is registered to Latitude Air Ambulance, based in Hamilton, Ontario, according to Canadian Civil Aircraft Register records.
The Coast Guard Northeast Sector has deployed an HC-144 Ocean Sentry and a Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules to search the area. The Sentinel-class cutter William Sparling is also participating in the search effort.
The aircraft is a Gulfstream G100, a twin-engine, super-light midsize business jet.
The FAA reported losing contact with the aircraft early Saturday morning. Coast Guard air and surface crews have since been deployed as the search continues off the Massachusetts coast.
The search remains active, with crews working to locate the aircraft and determine what happened after contact was lost.
