FALL RIVER, MASS. — A dramatic emergency response unfolded on Brayton Avenue following a severe motor vehicle crash that sent a vehicle directly into a residential structure, trapping an occupant underneath and displacing all residents.
According to updates from Fall River Firefighters
(IAFF Local 1314), units including Engine 2, Engine 4, Ladder 2, Rescue 1, Car 3, and the specialized Technical Rescue Truck rushed to the scene. First responders faced a complex and high-stakes situation with a victim trapped beneath the vehicle and significant structural compromise to the building.
Crews carried out an extended, meticulous extrication operation, ultimately succeeding in freeing the trapped occupant, who was treated by medical personnel.
The collision inflicted heavy structural damage, rendering the building unsafe and displacing its occupants. Compounding the hazard, the impact severely damaged the home’s exterior electrical service. Emergency personnel quickly coordinated a remote power shutoff to neutralize the electrocution risk before National Grid arrived to permanently secure the lines.
Local union representatives noted that the deployment required cross-staffed apparatus like the Technical Rescue Truck, underscoring ongoing staffing constraints and manpower challenges managed by the department during major critical incidents.
