The New Bedford Police Department is set to enhance its traffic safety and enforcement efforts following a recent federal funding award.
The department has received $59,520 through the FFY27 Municipal Road Safety Grant Program. Administered by the Office of Grants and Research (OGR) and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the grant is designed to support local law enforcement agencies in protecting their communities.
Where the Funding Goes
The grant resources will be directed toward several key initiatives aimed at protecting drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists alike:
- Targeted Traffic Enforcement: Strengthening high-visibility patrols to deter dangerous driving behaviors.
- Safety Equipment & Training: Equipping officers with specialized tools and professional training.
- Public Education: Funding community outreach programs focused on pedestrian and bicyclist safety.
- Crash Prevention: Implementing proactive measures to reduce traffic-related incidents across the city.
Local leaders have expressed appreciation for the collaborative effort behind the grant, thanking the Healey-Driscoll Administration, the OGR, and the New Bedford Police Department for their continued dedication to making city streets safer for everyone.
