At approximately 9:25 PM, two boaters were rescued from the water following a serious boating accident near Weaver’s Cove. A 14-foot vessel collided with the pier near the former Shell station, causing the boat to sink and throwing both occupants overboard.
Coordinated Multi-Agency Response
- Somerset Operations: Somerset Marine 1 responded directly by water, with Ladder 1 establishing land-based command at the Veterans Memorial Bridge. Rescue 2 supported operations at the bridge before staging at Bicentennial Park.
- Fall River Operations: Fall River Marine 1 deployed by water under land-based command from Car 2, with a medical rescue squad staging at Bicentennial Park.
Rescue and Medical Transport
Crews from Somerset Marine 1 and Fall River Marine 1 located and pulled both victims from the water. The boaters were transported by water to Bicentennial Park and transferred to waiting emergency medical crews. Both individuals were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious head and orthopedic injuries.
While the emergency rescue was underway, off-duty Somerset firefighters stepped up to backfill the main station, ensuring uninterrupted emergency coverage for the community.
