A Florida truck driver is facing multiple criminal charges after Massachusetts State Police say he struck a parked cruiser outside the Sturbridge Barracks while allegedly under the influence of alcohol and then attempted to drive away.
According to State Police, the incident occurred on Aug. 3, 2026, when a tractor-trailer driven by Timothy Dorsey, 50, of Pensacola, Florida, crashed into an unoccupied Massachusetts State Police cruiser parked outside the Sturbridge Barracks.
The force of the collision pushed the cruiser onto a curb and into a light pole, causing significant damage. Police said the tractor-trailer continued over nearby shrubs before circling behind the barracks in what appeared to be an attempt to leave the scene.
Troopers quickly stopped the vehicle and began an investigation.
According to police, Dorsey appeared unsteady on his feet, had glassy eyes, and emitted an odor of alcohol from his breath. He was taken into custody and transported to Dudley District Court for arraignment.
Dorsey is charged with:
- Leaving the Scene of Property Damage
- Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
No troopers or members of the public were injured in the incident.
Massachusetts State Police emphasized that operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol poses a serious danger to everyone on the road. The charges against Dorsey are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
