Imagine my surprise when I received a letter from Hawthorn Medical in the mail addressed to my deceased mother, (she died 21 years ago!) was it a long delinquent bill? Nope. Data Breach. Hawthorn, which was bought out by Brown University Health, which was either bought or sold by Lifespan (its hard to keep up) sent out notices to a lot folks in Bristol County.
If you’re a patient of Hawthorn Medical, your personal information may have been exposed in one of the largest recent data breaches affecting Massachusetts residents.
The breach reportedly impacted more than 290,000 Massachusetts residents and may have exposed highly sensitive information, including Social Security numbers, medical records, financial account information, and other personal data.
To date, Hawthorn Medical has not publicly explained exactly what caused the breach or how attackers gained access to its systems.
Here is a copy of the letter, its posted on their website, but not prominently and I did not find anything posted on their socials.
