FALL RIVER, MA — Emergency responders from three separate agencies joined forces late last night for a complex rescue operation after a vehicle veered off Route 24 and crashed deep into the surrounding woods.
First responders dispatched to the scene included units from Fall River Emergency Medical Services
(Medic 3 and Squad 11), the Fall River Fire Department (Heavy Rescue 1, Engine 4, and Ladder 2), and the Massachusetts State Police.
Upon arrival, crews located the vehicle approximately 100 to 150 yards off the roadway, hidden deep within the forested area.
Without hesitation, emergency personnel from all three agencies coordinated as a single team, making their way into the dense woods on foot to establish contact with the driver. Inside the wrecked vehicle, crews found a female patient trapped.
Fall River Fire Department firefighters carried out extraction procedures to free the driver from the wreckage. Following extrication, she was treated on-scene by Fall River EMS before being transported by Medic 3 to the Trauma Center at Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.
Officials praised the seamless teamwork demonstrated by the responding agencies, pointing to the incident as an example of rapid, cross-departmental coordination under challenging conditions. Drivers are reminded to observe posted speed limits, remain vigilant, and always wear their seatbelts.
