ACUSHNET, MA — Acushnet Police, Fire and EMS responded to a serious motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a car Thursday evening, September 24, at approximately 9:14–9:16 PM at the intersection of South Main Street and Jean Street, in front of Cumberland Farms.
First responders arriving at the scene found a motorcycle lying in the roadway and a 21-year-old male motorcycle operator on the ground and unresponsive. Medical personnel from Acushnet Fire & EMS and other responding agencies provided immediate care and stabilized the rider.
The injured motorcyclist was transported by Acushnet Fire & EMS paramedics to St. Luke’s Hospital Trauma Center in New Bedford. He was subsequently transferred to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma Center in Providence for continued treatment.
Two injuries have been reported in connection with the crash. The operator of the other vehicle was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by Fairhaven Fire-EMS for further evaluation.
INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY
The crash prompted a significant emergency response, including additional paramedics and mutual aid from Fairhaven Fire/EMS.
According to information provided following the crash, the motorcycle was reportedly from Rochester, while the other vehicle was reportedly from Fairhaven.
Massachusetts State Police CARS (Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section) responded to assist Acushnet Police with the accident reconstruction and investigation. South Main Street remained closed for several hours while investigators examined and documented the crash scene.
The investigation remains ongoing. The identity of the injured motorcycle operator is being withheld at this time pending the open investigation.
