Awesome news to report this evening as multiple sources have shared that Engine 9 will remain open and actively serving the residents of New Bedford!
Following recent discussions, Governor Maura Healey and the Healey-Driscoll Administration have committed $1.3 million in Municipal Public Safety Staffing (MPSS) funding to keep Station 9 operating throughout this fiscal year. While this funding will head to the State Legislature for formal approval, local leaders are already celebrating this monumental step toward securing the fire station’s long-term future.
This huge win for public safety would not have been possible without strong leadership, relentless advocacy, and broad support across our community.
